The turn
The turn circles around the main note with four notes. If the sign is above the note it starts on the upper note: upper, main, lower, main. If it is after the note, the main note sounds first and the turn comes at the end of its value, on the way to the next one.
The inverted turn, with a line through the sign or with the sign flipped, starts from below: lower, main, upper, main.
Where it is written and how it is measured
The position of the sign changes the performance: above the note, the turn starts with it; after the note, it comes at the end of its value. The speed is not written and depends on tempo and character: in a slow movement it can be played calmly and in a fast one, very tightly.
Accidentals above or below the sign affect the upper or lower note of the turn. Turns are also written with small notes, which makes their content clear.
